How this all started...

You’re new here? So are we!

Before I go ahead and introduce ourselves to you, I would love to explain why we are here.

We’re both sailors and met sailing. During the first few weeks of our relationship, we would day dream about buying a boat and going sailing around the world together.

When we met, we were living in different countries and after 6 months of trying a long distance relationship, he packed up his things and moved into my studio flat. That was the day before the city went into lockdown, so we had 10 glorious weeks of hunkering down in our new relationship.

We had access to a small garden, and even though we weren’t supposed to, we would often go and stay overnight at my sister’s house round the corner. But mostly, we just took the time to get to know each other, simply and slowly hanging out – as the whole world seemed to be doing at that time.

So after lockdown lifted, he got stuck into work in a new country; building a new network of customers for his yacht rigging business, and of course making new friends. Not only was this easy for him because he’s such a friendly guy, but also because our sailing community (that I was already a long standing part of) is a pretty welcoming place.

Fast forward a couple of years and we are pretty settled, he had started his own rigging business and it was growing so well that he was also representing well-known global brands selling their products to his customers as well as his services.

For a little while, I had been helping him behind the scenes, doing things like getting the website set up, helping him with invoicing some customers, setting up his social media, that sort of thing. But as the list of brand partnership grew, so did the amount of work. So at the beginning of 2023, I joined the business to launch the retail side of the business and shortly afterwards we opened our small sailing chandlery.

Actually, my background is quite different to his (more than a decade doing sailing yacht rigging), I had a successful interior design career specializing in hotels, bars, restaurants and spa, followed by a decade building a running my business in sustainable fashion.

I have also done some business mentoring, and for a year I was the lead consultant for a female business incubator – which is where I discovered my love of helping and guiding others in their businesses.

So back to the sailing part!

It’s been 18 months of us working together, building this business, and it hasn’t always been easy. We are learning to communicate better with each other, being a little more patient with each other, and generally learning to work better together. And one thing that has kept us going on difficult days, is that we are building this together – with one goal in mind - to buy our boat and go and sail around the world together.

3 weekends ago, we sat down and really talked about how we could achieve that goal – and that kickstarted this part of the journey. We want to share our goal with the world so that we can hopefully inspire and guide others to follow suit.

Over the coming weeks and month’s we’ll share anecdotes from our journey, our industry knowledge and experiences, product reviews, and even some strategies on how to achieve the goal quicker.

Are you excited about adventuring too - then don't wait for Monday!
